Law Clerk Cassity Reed was raised on a family farm outside of Carmen, Oklahoma. As an Oklahoma Regents Scholar, she completed her Marketing degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2005. Cassity joined Mazaheri Law Firm in 2018 with a plan to specialize in the practice of child law. She possesses a passion for adoptions and guardianships. Whether in family law issues or immigration, she favors helping clients achieve legal goals that better the quality of life they enjoy as a family. Cassity is certain about her commitment to law, as she would love to one day been known as the Oklahoma attorney who changed the juvenile justice system.
Professional Background and Memberships
During her time at OU, Cassity was a member of the Student Business Association, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and on the President’s and Dean’s Honor Rolls. While earning her degree, Cassity began her marketing career as a property manager for First Pacific Investments of Norman. In 2006, she became the marketing director for Farmers Exchange Bank of Cherokee, Oklahoma and oversaw the operation of its four individual branch locations. While there, she helped create the Take a Closer Look initiative in Cherokee, served as a member of the Northwest Vocational Career Services Council, and was a member of the Northwest Oklahoma Alliance. Before attending law school, Cassity took a four-year professional hiatus, staying home to raise her four young children: Cash, Channing, Colt, and Sarah.
While in law school, Cassity clerked for the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office downtown and juvenile divisions. She was vice president of Future Oklahoma Lawyers for Children and was selected for the 2018-2019 Interdisciplinary Program on Child Abuse and Neglect at the OU Child Study Center. She has earned seven CALI awards for outstanding academic performance and will be publishing an article on the Violence Against Women Act in the fall of 2019.
Helping Oklahoma’s Youth
Cassity’s motivation for a career in law directly stems from her years serving as an Oklahoma foster care provider and mentor family with Angels Foster Family Network. As Cassity was introduced to the individual, immediate needs of children in her care, increasingly, she began to realize the need for personal provisions beyond the basic, substantive needs that accompany a foster child. It is with this awareness that she will serve the legal and professional needs of children and families in transition. Her intrinsic passion for rehabilitation and untiring advocacy fuels her commitment to providing proactive and informed legal counsel to Oklahoma families affected by child abuse and neglect.
